Last week Pulford Community Living Services hosted a two-day training session facilitated by Innovative LIFE Options Inc. that aimed to provide our managers with new ways to build new management skills. The training leaders were Laurie Miller and Christine Currie who lead our staff through a variety of different lessons dealing with things like their core competencies and the roles of the manager. Being flexible in your management, communication, leadership and building self esteem were all touched on as well.
Management’s role in our organization is to effectively oversee the care of those living in a Pulford home while also making sure the staff within the home are being taken care of. Having their concerns relayed to our head office if need be, but also being able to triage and solve problems on the fly. Our House Managers have a lot to juggle and can keep up when things get demanding.
Training sessions like this are good for many reasons. Revisiting the fundamentals can help put staff back on track but also serve to reinforce things they already know. While some of the deeper, more advanced aspects of training can open their eyes to new ways to handle different scenarios.
Innovative LIFE Options’ training session was well received by staff and we look forward to working with their organization again.
